Thesis: Andrew Jackson’s followers believed to enforce than follow the constitution. Document A was written by George Henry Evans on “The Working Man’s Declaration Of Independence’. I agree and disagree with what he says on a few things. I agree on him saying that the lower and middle class tends to get oppression than the upper class. I disagree of his way of stopping oppression in society is to stand up against the government.
A man of the people, a hero, and a fighter for his beliefs, Andrew Jackson is the emobidment of democracy itself. Although there is great debate in regards to Jackson's presidency, it would only be fair that due to his actions he should be uphead as one of America's greatest presidents. Jackson had a very strong opposition to the Second National Bank of the United States and for that reason he vetoed the renewal of 1832. His reasons were both political and economic. On the political side he believed that "shareholders used the bank's control of much of the money supply to benefit themselves.
Andrew Jackson was president of the United States from 1829-1837. He is mostly known for starting a new democracy in the United States and for the infamous Indian Removal Act. It is heavily debated whether Andrew Jackson was truly democratic or not. Democracy is giving power to the people and letting them have more say in government. I believe that Andrew Jackson was mostly democratic because he gave the common man more power, however not everything he did was democratic.
Andrew Jackson, a president from 1829-1837, was a hero by making the United States a better place. For example, Jackson included the common man as part of the government, which became the Jacksonian Democracy. This allowed citizens to be part of the government, though they had no experience. Because congress passed the tariff crisis, it made European goods more expensive, which led to the South to protest. However, the south said that they could nullify or secede from the union.
Andrew Jackson, the slayer of 3,000 Native Americans, should not be on the $20 bill. He passed an Indian Removal Act and had many slaves. He was a harsh master to his slaves. Jackson fired utterly superb federal employees. Jackson was cruel for removing Indians for more farmland.
During the 1830’s, Andrew Jackson’s presidency became a time the United States encountered a historical change and was an era of the common man. While elected president, he created an era of American politics which created a growth of democracy. According to Give Me Liberty, “Unlike previous presidents, Jackson rose to prominence from a humble background, reflecting his era’s democratic opportunities” (p. 281). With that being said, Jackson generated political and economic changes during his presidency.
Slavery began in Jamestown, Virginia. Founded in 1607 by a group of English Merchants. Jamestown served as the capital of Virginia from 1616 to 1699. It started when James I granted a charter to settle anywhere from North Carolina to New York State. Named River and Colony after the King, and settled on an island in the James River.
Andrew Jackson, in his “Address on Indian Removal” speech, argues that his Act, which relocates Native Americans in the South East, is ultimately beneficial for both the United States and the Indians. To slowly degrade the opinions congressmen have on the Indians and conjure sympathetic emotions, Jackson uses derogatory words which further diminish the little respect congressmen have for the Native Americans. For example, almost every paragraph contains the word “savage” which connotes incivility, barbarism, and stupidity. The use of “savage” allows Jackson to imply that America is better than the “red men” and should decide their fate in order to protect them. Furthermore, towards the end of the second paragraph Jackson uses words like “retard,”
Andrew Jackson was one of a kind. He was a fellow North Carolinian, a fearless leader and a cherished friend. Throughout his presidency, he stuck by his guns and never backed down from a challenge. In fact, that's exactly why everyone called him old hickory, because no matter how tough things got he persevered.
Andrew Jackson did many things to advance democracy. One paramount policy that Jackson worked to improve was suffrage. Throughout Jackson's eight years in office he expanded voting rights to all white men. He believed that the basis for a white man voting should not be based upon how much land they owned. He made it to where land ownership didn’t dictate a white man’s ability to vote.
The era of Andrew Jackson which was nicknames the era of the “common man” certainly lived up to its name. As the seventh President of the United States, Jackson had a major effect on the life of the common man, in such a way that the life of the common man would never be the same again. Jackson’s aim, after the manner in which he was defeated in the Presidential Election of 1824, despite receiving more popular votes than John Quincy Adams who took on the office, was to reduce the power and the authority of the elite. When he came into power after the 1828 election Jackson began to carry out his proposals. Jackson expanded the voting right to all men, in accordance with the Declaration of Independence of 1776 which declared that “all men are created equal” instead of just the elite.
Chapter 1 In the broad field of American biography, there are found but few names more prominent than those of Generals Andrew and Thomas J. Jackson. As these remarkable men represent different generations, and belong to different periods of history, their similar traits of character are not distinctly discernable by a casual observer. It is believed that by contrasting them a nearer view will be obtained that may prove interesting and instructive to all intelligent readers. Being descended from the same stock, the striking similarity of character that General Thomas J. Jackson, or General Stonewall Jackson, as he is best known, bears to General Andrew Jackson is doubtless due to their common origin.
Although we know slavery is wrong, there are some advantages to slavery. For example, Sex trafficking brings a lot of money for the traffickers so, that brings wealth to the company. Companies use the money there slaves make to buy things. Although this may not be a great job, the victims still get enough money to have a roof over their head and a little food on their table. Sex trafficking is worth more money than drug dealing, with that being said, slavery is worth a ton of money and can boost up the economy.
Have you ever wondered how life was for the slaves in the South? Slaves in the South suffered through many consequences. For example, they suffered through many whippings with cow skin if they didn't obey their master, they also got separated from their family mostly the fathers, so, they can be sold to a very mean slave owner. Even if they were living a miserable life on the farms, they had their own culture and they managed to even get married in the farmland or where they worked. Not only did the slaves live on the farm.
In the minds of many Southerners, without slavery, the South and America as a whole, wouldn’t continue to be a growing economic powerhouse, and would lose its culture as a nation where White Christian, males, ruled society. For many, there was no South, no America, without slavery. History has shown time and time again that power corrupts. To hold onto their power, slave owners made sure their slaves were kept uneducated.
