Every so often individuals wish to modify different aspects of their lives. Occasionally, people wish to improve for their family, career, or simply advance their life. Therefore, people yearn to transform their life to become the best version of themselves. In the book, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear he discusses various methods to enhance or break habits in life. The author uses anecdotes and scientific reasoning to support the several strategies a person can use to develop or stop individual habits. Temptation bundling is the idea of doing something you enjoy before behavior before doing a task is not as enjoyable but a necessity. I have a habit of scrolling TikTok and spending hours on the platform due to the system providing me with endless entertainment. Therefore, I can dedicate time to contacting my friends and family by making it a habit to enjoy. Seeing TikTok as an enjoyable task can be used as an advantage. Instead of viewing my time on TikTok as a negative behavior, I can view it as an incentive. I can dedicate five or ten minutes to TikTok while also ensuring I dedicate twenty or thirty minutes to communicating with family and friends. This can shorten my screen time with TikTok while also establishing time with family and friends. As I continue to prioritize communication with family and friends, I will naturally attach communicating with friends and family with TikTok till it becomes a habit to complete on its own. Clear specifies, “…even if you don’t really want to process overdue work emails, you’ll become conditioned to do it if it means you get to do something you really want to do along the way” (Clear 110). While the stresses of work email are not on the same level as wanting to contact family and friends more the tactic is still effective. Often people can find themselves struggling to make time for multiple aspects of their life. Hence, combining habit stacking and temptation bundling assists you in completing the tasks you desire to do as well as the tasks you need to
