Anesthesiology is the first career I have chosen. The educational requirements for an anesthesiologist are a bachelor’s degree and then a graduate’s degree in medicine. After a medical degree, it is preferred that you attend 4 years at an anesthesiology residency. It takes 12 years to become an anesthesiologist. There are many colleges that are great to attend for this profession, but the top 5 are John Hopkins, UCSF School of Medicine, Perelman School of Medicine, Wash U School of Medicine in St. Lewis, and UC San Diego School of Medicine. The required skills for anesthesiology are critical thinking. We need this because we need to be able to use our logic to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a situation. Then, we must have active listening skills because you need to be able to give your full attention to the people and assess the situation. Also, we need judgement and decision making because it’s important to consider the positive and the negative of every situation and choose the most beneficial option. Another skill is complex problem solving because identifying all problems and evaluating the alternatives is a very crucial part of this career path. Communicating is key in this profession because you need to convey your thoughts effectively. Monitoring is important because you must be aware of everything going on with the patient and be able to improve their condition. The lowest level of medical skill needed for this career is an MD
