I was lucky enough to be able to watch Angels in America more than once. Each performance allowed me to focus on any details or dialogue that I had potentially missed, and it enabled me to be able to spot the differences from each performance. Overall, I was beyond impressed with the production. Having news reports from the 1980’s being played during the transitions from scene to scene was absolutely genius. It was such a good filler, and it just made the performance feel almost live. In a way, it transported the audience to that time. The actors were absolutely incredible, the set design was simple and realistic, the lighting set the tone for the beginning of each scene. I’m completely amazed with the show as a whole. There were very few moments during the show that I thought the actors weren’t realistic enough. The opening scene was weird to me. I personally didn’t like all of it. I felt like some of it didn’t have a purpose. Also, at some points it was difficult to understand what the rabbi was saying. I felt like that scene didn’t make or break the show, so the amount of dialogue was kind of pointless. I think that portion could have been broken down a little bit better. From what I understood, the point of the funeral scene was to set up the scene where Prior begins to tell Louis that his condition is getting worse, and that he is in fact dying, but I find myself wondering why the rabbit was discussing the background of the Jewish lady who passed away. As an audience member, I felt bored during the opening, but as an actor and a student studying acting, I see it from both the writer’s point of view and my own attention span. Now having had seen the show more than twice, I understand why each scene is constructed the way that it is. Truly everything fits and
