In Animal Farm written by George Orwell. This novel showed the animals rebelling against their corrupted leader Jones and then their next Napoleon. These animals were mistreated, manipulated, gaslighted, and abused for a good chunk of their lives because of their corrupt leaders. This story focuses on Napoleon and his leadership over the animals, it shows his many ways of committing Animalism. Through this book, the reader is cautioned that a fascist government isn’t established all at once; it happens little by little, and fascist leaders use manipulation of the people who are too unaware to see that they have been taken advantage of. These animals were manipulated using fear and being told a false sense of reality. They were so easily persuaded because they had always lived under somebody constantly telling them what to do and when, this provided the perfect opportunity for Napoleon to take control and take advantage of them. When Napoleon first became the leader, he had all of the animals get together and write the 7 commandments that they would live by. These commandments were morals that the animals lived by and respected in order to make the farm a healthier living environment, these also kept the animals from acting like humans. The animals wanted to heal the farm of all the past traumas, these commandments were extremely important to each and every one of the animals. At first, the rules of Animalism were written on the wall of the barn so that they would be seen and wouldn't let the animals forget what they were, but as the story went on Napoleon gradually started to change them and reword them completely. Old Major was a big influence in all of the commandments because he was the main animal that was bringing peace to the animals no matter what Jones was doing to them. The changing of this commandment really made the animals realize what the pigs had been slowly doing over time, changing into humans. The degradation of these 7 commandments shows and proves the oppressive and toxic condition that the animals were having to live with. All of the pigs' actions were all pointing toward them changing into humans and wanting to act exactly like them, this was obvious from the start to the reader but the animals were being manipulated and they didn’t realize until way
