In George Orwell’s Animal Farm the animals symbolism something bigger they symbolize historical figures from Communist Russia. For example, Napoleon represents Stalin and Squealer represent the communist propaganda. Throughout the book, we see different events on the farm that represent events that happened in Russia. Because of these events, we can tell that the farm is not like Communist Russia. Near the end of the book, there is a quote which says “ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS” (Orwell 134). This is the last commandment and it shows us the farm has turned completely into Communist Russia. Since the start of Animal Farm, the farm has continued to turn more and more into an average farm. As changes where made Napoleon kept changing the commandments so he wasn’t doing anything against the law. This quote used to be one of the origin commandments which read “All Animals Are Equal” but was changed to fit the new ways on Animal Farm. What Napoleon is trying to do is keep the original commandment, but add more on to it so he is not doing anything illegal. In the end, the commandment now means all animals are equal, but some are better than other animals. This quote is an oxymoron. I believe the narrator included the commandments in this story because he was trying to show the progression of the farm from there being 7 commandments to one commandment. It’s important to have this progression so the readers can see the changes of the farm. Also, it is important to have the commandments in this story so the readers can see how the farm becomes more like Russia as time goes
