Once upon a time there lived a girl named Annabel. Annabel was a pretty little girl, but she was forced into working for the wicked witch who lived in a cottage just outside the kingdom of Troy. The wicked witch had tricked Annabel’s poor mother into giving Annabel into slavery. The wicked witch was very old lady and she was very vain. The witch wanted everything and she despised Annabel for her milky skin and raven black hair. Every day, Annabel was forced to do very unpleasant tasks for the witch, yet she did so with a smile. One day the wicked witch looked at the kingdom of Troy and she came to a decision. She would kill the current beloved King of Troy and become the new queen. The liquid in the cauldron bubbled ominously and the windowpanes made a terrible noise caused by the wind. It was as if the witch was summoning evil spirits. The witch soon grew tired of throwing of stirring as you had to bend over it, since it was a very large cauldron. She screamed at Annabel. “Come stir this for me, girl! I am tired.” The witch planned to get ready for a trip to the castle. Annabel saw her chance to get rid of the witch and said, “I do not see how I am to do it. I am too small.” “What nonsense! Look, even I, an old woman, can do it!” and the wicked witch bent over the large cauldron. Annabel rushed to the old wicked witch and shoved her roughly in the large cauldron. The witch made a terrible sound that sounded like a demon. When the witch tried to climb out of the cauldron, Annabel took hold of the wooden ladle used to stir the mixture and bashed the witch back into the cauldron. There was a sickening crack—probably the witch’s skull cracking. Down the witch went into the potion she had been making to kill the king. Instead of the potion killing the king, it had killed the witch. How unfortunate, She was not
