In the excerpt from “Anne of the Green Gables” by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Marilla has a headache which makes Anne attend to the work to let her rest. Anne is frightened to go into the forest because she and her friend imagined that the woods were haunted. Marilla is amused by Anne’s nonsense. In the excerpt from “The Invisible Man” by H.G. Wells, Mrs. Hall, an innkeeper allows a mysterious man who had gotten into an accident to stay at her inn. She felt sympathy for him and helped him to the best of her abilities. Both characters, Anne and Mrs. Hall share a few similarities such as nurturing. Wells, Anne and Mrs. Hall are both nurturing characters. “She had had one of her headaches that afternoon, and although the pain had gone she felt weak and ‘tuckered out,’ as she expressed it. Anne looked at her with eyes limpid with sympathy.” Anne felt bad for Marilla since she was lying in pain with a headache. She tried her best to take care of such as completing chores and letting her rest. “Mrs. Hall lit the fire and left him there while she went to prepare him a meal with her own hands.” Mrs. Hall welcomed a mysterious man at her inn who looked as if he had been in an accident. Mrs. Hall went to prepare a meal for him with her own hands, even though she was the owner of the inn. Both Anne and Mrs. Hall care and think about others, and do everything possible to help
