I have never heard of mechanism-based anti-aggression psychotherapy. I noted that it involved DBT, which I have heard has had reliable results collaborating with people experiencing symptoms of borderline personality disorder, so I investigated this more. Borderline Personality Disorder has been viewed as a difficult diagnosis to treat. Challenges include risk management due to suicide attempts and self-harm, frequent hospitalizations, and high rates of unsuccessful treatment attempts (Little, et al.2017). DBT is a cognitive– behavioral treatment for BPD, primarily used to reduce rates of suicidality and self-harm. The five main goals of DBT are to increase motivation to change and use skills provided, to teach skills for more effective emotional and behavioral regulation, to support the individual to generalize these skills to the wider environment, help shape an environment that reinforces the use of the skills and increases the therapists own skills and motivations to keep working with the client (Little, et al.2017). One measurement tool that was used in the study was their quality assurance assessment.
