Even though people have no direct connection with one another, they could find similarities and differences within each other by observing individual’s life. In the memoir, The Red-Headed Hawaiian by Chris McKinney and Rudy Puana, a life of Rudy has been described from his childhood to his adulthood. The journey of Rudy Puana starts with cultural identity and ends in cultural identity, in which Hawaiian and haole culture became obstacles as well as solutions to his problem. Throughout Rudy’s educational period, he experienced mistreatment, hardship, and recoveries from the undesirable conditions. His life is especially different from other life as well as from my life.

Jeanne-Louise-Henriette Campan was a French educator, writer, and lady-in-waiting to Queen Marie Antoinette.
In Obasan, Joy Kogawa highlights the emotional trauma that came with the decision by the Canadian government under Prime Minister Mackenzie King to intern immigrants of Japanese ancestry, even if they held Canadian citizenship. Kogawa is able to convey her points with usage of flashbacks to the period between 1941 and 1949, when the interment took place while the main setting of the story takes place in 1972. The fact that the main storyline takes place in 1972 and the book was published in 1981 underlines the fact that in the 1970s and 1980s, these issues had become a larger point of focus in Canadian society, especially because Canada did not have a true sense of national identity in how it viewed itself. The titles I enjoyed most in the past year that were required included "How to Read Literature Like a Professor" by Thomas Foster, which analyzed how to go beyond the surface of literature. "Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes" by Edith Hamilton condensed the majority of mythology into one piece, aiding in the identification of allusions in other works that I have read. Another piece I surprisingly enjoyed to read was the piece "Everything's an Argument" by Andrea Lunsford, which explained the different fundamental pieces of arguments and how an effective argument is developed. I enjoyed these three readings the most during the past year because they went beyond the usual school reading assignment. Each of these provide a new tool
My reaction was quite shocking and very open minded. For my own understanding I imagined if I were experiencing this situation. My reaction to all this would be more of an emotional feeling, such as vulnerable and lonely. Having to leave your small village and adapt to the United States is a huge difference of adaptation. A person has to adjust to the traditions here and the lifestyle a person lives by.
On the 29th of December in 2011 Kali Jo Arnzen, a regular high school going 17 year old teenage girl was ice skating in the area between Ritter and the bank when she heard ice break. The manner in which this young girl reacted to the situation at hand is what would classify her as a true hero. In this essay the circumstances of the heroic act that won Kali Jo Arnzen an award by the Carnegie Hero Fund then will be described. Following this reasons why she possibly could have helped and what made her assume responsibility will be discussed.
In Chapter One of Thomas Cooley’s The Norton Sampler: Short Essays for Composition, the audience was exposed to several strategies recommended for reading pieces of literature. These strategies were divided into three segments: Previewing the Text, Reading Closely and Critically, and Responding to What You Read. Each segment contained a list of either advice or questions the reader could heed to while analyzing their given text. Later, the chapter exposed the audience to the four traditional types of writing utilized.
Despite there being a distinct theme in all three of the articles, each one provides a similar message. I think the purpose of each article was to help the audience improve their reading and writing skills by a great deal. In the article “How to Read Like a Writer,” by Mike Bunn, the author focuses on helping the reader sharpen their reading skills and gives insight on what he thinks a good reader is like. He explains to his audience that readers need to focus more on what type of material they are reading in order to understand the work. Bunn is correct in making this point, and I feel as though I read material thoroughly in order to have a sense of comprehension or what the author is talking about.
The way I prepared myself for this book was on every page I had at least about three sticky notes stating the important facts and at the end of the chapter I had a one sentence summary stating the main idea opic of that chapter. This method I have found out has helped me the most it helps me remember certain things better due to my short-term memory loss. For my writing method, I tend to make outlines so I don’t get off topic. Both of my reading and writing method I have discovered for myself throughout my school years has helped me learn better and just in generally better myself academic wise.

The information was compiled into the Pseudomorphs/Spherulites Ratio (PSR), which produced values that related to the use of pure wood or dung as fuel, and a wide range called a “gray-area,” which represented a mix of wood and dung ashes that may have come as a result of mixing the two fuel sources
Coming into Writing 39B, I struggled with analyzing ideas or data that I pulled out of the texts. Analysis was always my weakest tool because I did not know what to say; therefore, in my analysis it always turns out to be a summary of the text. However, besides analysis I also found understanding the reading materials, such as the Luckas’s and Buckley’s short readings, difficult to comprehend. After spending countless hours trying to understand the text, I still did not understand it. The next day in class when we had to discuss with a partner about what we read, I started putting the pieces together and slowly understood what was being discussed in the readings.
All of which helped tremendously with becoming a more precise writer and developing my identity as a writer. In the beginning of this course we worked with different readings that were intended to challenge us intellectully. Readings such as “To see your story clearly, start by pulling the wool over your own eyes” which is found the New York Times and “All Writing is Autobiography” by Donald M. Murray where readings that were meant to be challenging yet unfamiliar to us as well. This concept helped me greatly because it proved that I can be a flexible reader.
I could tell you have the very profound grasp of “Mother Tongue” from only reading your introduction paragraph. I think the opening paragraph has a lot of highlights; the second sentence: "once we have grown it becomes apparent we have made ourselves something we are not, trying to hide what makes us unique and usually end up trying to revert back to our old selves to embrace our own uniqueness.
