Throughout history, Society is known for having a huge impact on family relation. In Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, Marx states, “The bourgeoisie has torn away from the family its sentimental veil, and has reduced the family relation to a mere money relation”. Marx demonstrates how the power of the bourgeoisie can effect a family’s communication toward each other. This demonstrates how money can have huge repercussions throughout the lower classes living with little, to no money at all. The bourgeoisie can dominate in society and change how these lower classes are looked at due to their financial status.
This upper class society can be seen ruining a relationship between father and son in the memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City by Nick Flynn. Nick believes that his father Jonathon is a dead man, as explained in the novel, “If you ask me about my father then – the years he lived in a doorway, in a shelter, in an ATM – I’d say dead” (Flynn, 7). Class oppression is a very common issue throughout world history. Marx states, “The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonism” (Marx, 7). Marx is implying that class oppression towards each other is still in existence. Even though the lower class seem to have a dramatic less amount of money then the upper class, they are still more focused on money the most, due to the lack of it. Due to this unfair money distribution throughout all classes, there is a lack of social equality. This lack of equality leads to the upper class with the most money, and lower class losing its family relation and concentering on money.
