What is Anthrax?
This is a highly infectious disease caused by bacteria called Bacillus anthracis. It is found in the naturally in soil. This disease affects humans with the contamination of animal products. For instance the inhaling anthrax spores that have been inhalational anthrax or by consuming undercooked meat from infected animals. Although rare in the United states it is a deadly worldwide for instance in northern Europe.
Humans get affected with anthrax when spores get into the body, one it is inhabited in the body it becomes initiated thus the bacteria begins to multiply rapidly and spread out the body at extreme rates, the bacteria produces poison which cause severe illness. Anthrax has three ways to get into the system through the skin, inhalation and digestion. The symptoms of inhalation anthrax begin 1-6 days after exposure which include fever, headache, coughing, difficulty breathing, extreme fatigue and chest discomfort. Many historians have stated that anthrax may had caused the plagues in Egypt. In addition Ancient Greece and Rome were also associated with this disease illustrated in ancient writings and have suggested to contribute to the fall of Ancient Rome. The first clinical study for anthrax was in the 1700’s by Maret in the year 1752 and Fournier in 1769 they gave the description of cutaneous anthrax. In 2001 the United States reported cases of inhalation anthrax by the powder caminated with the bacteria more than 10,000 people were considered at risk. Recently there has been a new form of anthrax according to CDC, in 2010 an outbreak of anthrax was found in the united kingdom and Germany, patients were found injected drugs like heroine, with the bacteria in it and begin to have the symptoms of cutaneous anthrax such as sores with black center.
