How would you define an as a leader? A leader is an individual others admire or look up to. In the play Antigone , Sophocles writes about a young woman who defies the law of her uncle, King Creon. Because of her actions, Creon punished her. By the end of the play, Creon regrets his decisions which led to various relative deaths. Moreover, some qualities of a great leader in connection to Antigone are integrity, confidence, and courage. Integrity is the act of being honest and fulfilling one’s morals.In the play, the princess, Antigone, admits to her wrongdoing against civil law even though her actions were an illustration of her morality. Creon interrogates, “And you Antigone, you with your head hanging,- do you confess this thing?” Antigone asserts,”I do. I deny nothing.”(Part 1, Scene 2, Lines 57-59).This quote proves that the process upholds integrity as she confesses to her actions, when she could have just lied …show more content…

The protagonist continuously believed in herself when she went through the process of her actions. Antigone declares, “ Ismene, I am going to buy him,” (Prologue , Line 32). She’s talking about burying her brother, Polyneices. The princess then argues later, “ I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy…” (Prologue, Lines 57-59). This demonstrates how Antigone had trust in herself to say what she had planned to do , let alone actually carry it out later. Courage is when one is brave enough to complete a difficult task. In the play, Haimon, the king's son and the princess’ fiance, makes a brave move when he confronts his father. Haimon says, “I hope that I shall never want to say that you have reasoned badly . Yet there are other men who can reason too…”(Part 2 ,Scene 3, LInes 57-59). Haimon had the courage to approach his father and tell him of his wrongs.
