ntigone is a tragic hero because she stands up for what she believes is right and will stop at nothing to do it, but she can also be wrong and make bad decisions. At the end of the day she still fights for what is right in all aspects. “Ismene, I am going to bury him.” This statement is true for the reason of her stating that she was determined to bury her brother, Polynices. The real tragic hero character is Antigone the reason being is because she does something against Creon’s law for what she believes is right. The law she is breaking is to bury her brother with the respect he deserves. She serves a role of showing courage, love, and leadership towards herself and others today. When Ismene tries to convince Antigone that she should not bury him she states, “No, Ismene. You have no right to say so. You would not help me, and I will not have you help me.” Ismene tries to persuade her into letting her join her on Antigone’s mission but she will not allow it. This states that she is very independent and that is one of the flaws of a tragic hero.
Antigone also sticks with what she believes all throughout the story. This is true because Creon tries to stop her and so does Ismene but she will stop at nothing to succeed. She vows to herself, to keep her word, to give the respect her brother deserves after his death in proper burial. She does not always succeed and has a downfall. “Look upon me, friends, and pity me”. Antigone was sentenced to death for what she has done but holds her pride. She gave her brother the proper burial he deserved but suffered in the consequences of death followed shortly after Creon found out she was the one who did it.
