Sophocles was one of the three great dramatists who wrote a trilogy of plays about the legend of Oedipus. Throughout Sophocles’ writings, the protagonists displays unshakable will power. In the story Antigone, and true to the title, the character who displays the best example of unshakable will power is Antigone. Some people consider unshakable will power as a flaw but it is actually a virtue for Antigone. Antigone shows the best example of unshakable will because of her determination and bravery.

Antigone showed bravery when she was brought in to Creon, she said, “I deny nothing… Your edict, King, was strong, But all your strength is weakness itself against… This death of mine / Is of no importance; but if I had left my brother Lying in death unburied, I should have suffered. Now I do not.’” This rebellious action shows that Antigone is not afraid of dying but she is afraid of not doing the right thing. Throughout the story Antigone never had any regrets and she admits what she did because to her it is the proper thing to do. Additionally, in scene two, the Choragus said, “Like father, like daughter: both headstrong, deaf to reason! Antigone has never learned to yield.” This is what Choragus thinks of Antigone. The Choragus describes Antigone by saying she doesn’t know when to give up and that she is determined to have it her own way. Sophocles saw that having unshakable willpower was a virtue because it eventually led to Creon burying Polyneices. Antigone’s unshakable willpower and conviction made her goal to bury her brother
