As an EPCC student, life gets pretty hard as you have to juggle a couple of things. First, you have the stress of trying to keep your grades up in school. Second, you have the stress of going back home and dealing with the bills or deal with the stress that parents cause. And last of all, in the case of Jose Aleman, the stress of having a job while trying to keep up with homework. How does one get rid of all that stress? Well, Jose Aleman has a few ways of dealing with stress. During our interview via Skype, he mentioned that he likes to play around with his computer, fix cars, and watch a show called My Little Pony. As weird as a combination of those interests can be, it’s what makes him who he is, a down-to-earth, friendly, human being. But, the interesting part is that these interests all have stereotypes that directly contradict each other. His interest in computers and how they work, first started off with constantly needing repairs on his computers. It turned out that all those repairs his family paid for would be costly as his computer needed repairs quite often. His inner tinkerer told him to open the computer and see what each of the parts did. He eventually got a craving for knowledge about computers. He started flipping through channels on TV to see what would interest him. A show called My Little Pony caught his eye. What piqued his interest was the show’s vibrant colors and the sheer amount of detail that was put into the animation. What kept him watching was the show’s sense of humor and interesting plot. Another reason why he watches the show is that, “It’s not that it makes me happy. It’s that it keeps me happy.” The stereotype here is that only girls like watching girly shows, when in fact, people of all ages like watching any
