Corps of Discovery and Apollo 11: Explorers of New Frontiers Americans have always been astonished by uncharted regions. When faced with new frontiers, the American people never shy away from exploring these mysterious territories. The “Corps of Discovery” and “Apollo 11” were two brave teams whose story captured the imaginations of Americans all across the nation and influenced their dreams of discovery. When the United States accepted The Louisiana Purchase of 1803, 827,000 square miles of unexplored land was added to the country.
In an effort to mark the millennium, four nations banded together, their goal to send the first manned mission to planet the planet Mars. As many of you are aware, Mars is 140 million miles away from Earth. To put this is perspective, the Moon is 239,000 miles away from Earth. A cold, dark, unforgiving journey through space awaited those who attempted to go there.

In the 1996 film Space Jam, flight is a major underlying theme. In the beginning of the movie, a young Michael Jordan is shooting hoops in his backyard as R. Kelly’s hit song “I Believe I Can Fly” plays in the background. Jordan’s father comes out from the house and asks him why he’s out so late, but then stays to watch him play. Jordan makes several wishes as he practices, sinking the ball into the net with every wish. At the end of this exchange, his father asks him: “After you’re finished with [baseball], I suppose you’re gonna fly or something”.

My Experiences of the Lewis and Clark Expedition In May of 1804, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead a fact finding expedition of 59 men, in which I was a part of, through the newly purchased Louisiana Territory. We left in May of 1804 and were told to seek a water passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, establish relations with the Native American tribes to inform them that the land was now property of the United States Government, and collect information of the wildlife and its habitats around. This trip took 2 years and 4 months to complete and was very dangerous, long, and tiring.
I chose this assignment because it was one of the favorite assignments I've ever done. Ms.Gonzales, our history teacher, asked me to pick a topic and make a movie poster as if I was a director. The moon landing is a defining moment in American history that will forever unite the country together. For numerous reasons, the importance of sending a man onto the moon was stressed by supporters. The U.S. believed that it in order to keep its position as a world leader, it was vital to beat the Soviet Union to the moon. The term ‘sense of wonder’ can be identified as a reaction, albeit physical or emotional, created within and by the reader/viewer, to the works of science fiction. A sense of wonder is specifically associated with the works of science fiction, as opposed to any other modes of work. A sense of wonder is an important element in the works of science fiction as it allows the works of science fiction to grow as a genre and expand in what it encompasses as a category. The feeling of wonder that is created within the reader/viewer allows the reader to have some form of control/power over the writers of science fiction themselves. Science fiction is built on the feeling of wonder – wonder drives and generates science fiction as a genre and so science fiction requires a sense of wonder to work and move forward as a genre.
Doing what I love and being able to support myself and loved ones is important to me. I am a very independent person and I like to do things my way. I like to set individual goals everyday, whether that means doing my homework before a certain time, or completing something for the week. They help me get my work done on time and efficiently.
