Mansa Musa was the Emperor of Mali in the fourteenth century, he was known for being the richest ruler. He was born around 1230 and died around 1337. Mansa Musa is mostly known for his journey to the Muslim holy city in Mecca where he was introduced him to rulers in the Middle East and in Europe. Musa came to the throne of West Africa’s Mali Empire through a practice of appointing a deputy when a king goes on his pilgrimage to Mecca or journeys somewhere else and later naming the deputy as heir. According to historians, Musa was appointed the deputy of Abubakari II.

Duke Kahanamoku was an Olympic surfer from Hawaii, he was born August 24, 1890 in the Kalia District of Honolulu. Kahanamoku introduced surfing to the world after it almost died out with other local Hawaiian traditions in the nineteenth century. European people came to Hawaii around 1778 and adored the traditions of the native people and quickly joined in riding the waves on flat boards. Christian missionaries later had the local Hawaiians believe that surfing was uncivilized and tried to ban the sport. There were many groups living in the United States between 1860 and 1900 and most of the groups we can categorize people into had very different viewpoints. The main groups that most can be categorized into are the wealthy, the common people, the Indians and the Chinese. Starting with the wealthy they looked at the west as a big fat paycheck, the wealth folks went out west and bought up lots of land and production and monopolized, while the common people competed with these big companies for free and cheap land because they were the poor back east and came out west with hopes of finding gold while mining or getting rich off abundant crop land or maybe it was some common women who came out west because they were allowed to purchase land out west. SOUTHERN TIER (WENY) - Elected official, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, is joining in on the fight to combat heroin. Palmesano along with the New York State Assembly Minority Task Force unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle the on going drug problem happening across the state. "Not a day goes by that you don 't hear in the news someone over dosing or someone dying and this is something we need to address," explains Assemblyman Palmesano. The plan is called HELP, which stands for Heroin ELimination and Prevention plan.

Although the British colonies settled in the Americas late, they quickly became a dominant force in the new world. After they acquired their first permanent settlement in Jamestown, VA in 1607, the British became attracted to greater power and more land, which was the first building block of perhaps the most powerful European nation of the time period. The Arapaho lived in tepees which the women made from bison hide .Before they were sent to reservations, they migrated often, chasing buffalo herds, so they had to design their tepees so that they could be transported easily. “The tepee suited the nomadic lifestyle of the Arapaho tribe as it was quick to erect and easy to dismantle.” These tent-like homes were constructed from wooden poles that were covered with waterproof animal skin. For example they used hides and the teepee was a cone shaped with a flaps, the inside of the tepees had limited furnishings.

It was established in February 19, 1909 it was created after a race riot took place in Springfield,Illinois. After the riot lead to a series of lynchings against African Americans, the N.A.A.C.P founders believed that African Americans were not being fairly protected by the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment. The goal of this organization is to make sure that all minorities were being treated equally under the law.
Ranging from the south Alleghenies mountain range all the way down to the south of Georgia and far west of Alabama, lived the Cherokee Indians. They were a powerful detached tribe of the Iroquoian family and were commonly called Tsaragi which translates into "cave people. " This tribe was very prominent in what is now called the U.S, but over time has been split up or run out of their land because of social or political encounters with the new settlers from Europe.
