Is it okay how in today 's society many innocent people are stopped by the police because of their race? Is it okay how many innocent people are often killed or injured because of their race? I think if a parent wants to bake an officer a cake for saving her son from drowning then it is her way of showing appreciation in the way that she knows how to show her thankfulness. I do not think that officers should be allowed to accept bribes to turn their heads in a situation. The claim that has become more often declared against police is the false arrest. The person bringing the complaint assert that the police officers are in violation of the Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure. If an officer has reason to think that the individual had committed a crime, then the arrest is within reasonable limitations, and the Fourth Amendment has not become violated.
Racial profiling, in law enforcement can be a disadvantage to those of color. Author Michael Lynch does not think that Taylor and Whitney make a valid argument to why racial profiling is not an acceptable law enforcement strategy. Lynch sees that Taylor and Whitney had made several methodology errors in their analyses of criminological data sources which creates results that can be misleading especially, “those that use of prevalence rates rather the incident rates (Lynch).” Failing to use rates that are racially based and adjusted by the population size will give reports that crime is over represent by those that are African American. Crimes that are committed by black and whites will vary from city to city because blacks do no commit all crimes.
I see a few different reasons why racial profiling still exists. Not that I think that it is right but I come from a town where there are literally a handful of African Americans at a time. And for a long time they would only stay a few weeks before they were harassed out of town. Law enforcement would keep an eye on them and if they seemed to be causing trouble, it never failed that they would pack up and head out before a few weeks had gone by.
Racial profiling has become a national issue starting in 2015 (“Racial”). Judging someone for their race has been a problem ever since a minority group has been noticed. Racial profiling has spread over all over the world. Racial profiling has been a problem through the years, if the human race can learn what racial profiling is, advantages of the profiling, and the disadvantages.
Throughout history, disputes and tensions between law enforcement officials and communities of minorities have endured hostility and violence between each other. Racial profiling has become a “hot topic” for researchers as well as for politicians and by now it is likely that most citizens are at least aware of the common accusations of racial bias pitted against law enforcement (Cochran & Warren, 2013). Communities of color are being discriminated against and racially profiled by white police officers for any suspicion of criminal activities. It has been widely assumed by policy makers and citizens alike that allegations of racial profiling are mostly associated with the policing practices of white officers and their treatment of racial and ethnic minorities (Cochran & Warren, 2013). Also, individuals of minority descent will certainly recognize that they are being racially profiled during a stop that is being conducted by a white police officer.
