Since the beginning of time, curiosity filled the minds of many people With time, scientists have been able to provide people with answers. However, there is one problem that bothered me from the time I was able to understand politics— why is the majority of the United States citizens clueless about American government? Knowledge in political science is vital to the nation’s survival. Without the knowledge and interest that is required to run a democracy, our government can quickly transform into an aristocracy. The only American citizens that are interested in politics are the wealthy, well-educated people. America has allowed the wealthy to dominate our nation with money. This method of government has been effective until the late 2000’s. Now, the government has questions to if the Constitution has outlived its time. Consequently, the citizens began to interrogate the duties of the president. Even though the president is supposed to make decisions that in compass the citizens’ best interests, the congress has the power to reject any of the president’s decisions if the congress does not favor them. Little does American citizens know, the political parties should match on the congress and executive level for serviceable laws to be passed. This is common knowledge in government life that these checks and balances occur; however, politics is not necessarily spoken frequently among the United States population. Disturbingly, politics is not common at all. This is a disappointing fact because America was once known as the most Democratic nation in the world, but the most that people have ever done to be an active political participant is voted on Election Day. Most of the times the participation numbers are as low as forty percent. If Americans knew the proper procedure for running a democracy, then people would understand that a Democracy cannot run properly with numbers as low as forty percent. If
