BIKERS AND SCIENTISTS is an original sci-fi script that brings two contradictory worlds together: bikers and scientists. It’s an intriguing combination. The idea of the protagonist being taken out of her ordinary world of science and thrust into a world of bikers, drugs, and crime, certainly has some merit. The script is driven by moral questions of how far one should take technology. It also explores what technology should be used for: to strengthen our defense or to help people who are terminally ill. It’s the type of story that one thinks should be a serious, gritty sci-fi thriller, but the tone is very mild and at times, feels a bit comical. It’s unclear if this is the intention or not. The current tone, unfortunately, doesn’t engage. Also, the idea of the porta-portal gets lost in the plot. It doesn’t feel like it’s used as effectively as it should be used in the plot. The idea of someone vanishing inside is never resolved. For example, it would feel different if they used the portal and then suddenly Debbie and the bikers all vanished and ended up transported to another world. Now they would have to find their way back (goal). The story would be driven by the idea of the characters trying to survive, trying to find a way back, or fixing the machine. As mentioned, Debbie isn’t a character that the audience roots for. Find ways to make her more relatable and likable. She can still be flawed, but she has to be emotionally relatable. How she grows or changes, as a person is also not established. For example, if Debbie were first established as a passive person or introvert, but learned at the end to find her voice and her “wild side” the audience would more clearly see her transformation.
