Choosing Gun Control In recent years, there have been many mass shootings around the United States. These mass shootings have brought up many debates on whether or not guns should be taken away completely. While some people believe in taking away guns, others believe they need guns to protect themselves. Also, people believe there should be more restrictions for buying guns. Gun control needs stronger restrictions but does not need to go to such extremes of taking away guns from those who respect the Second Amendment. In 1791, the Bill of Rights included the Second Amendment which gave American citizens the right to keep and bear arms. This amendment brought gun control and gun rights along with it. Gun control are the laws that regulate the sale, use, etc. of guns, while gun rights are the American citizens’ freedoms to keep or bear arms. Many gun laws have been passed since 1791. These people believe in having stronger restrictions on guns. According to Smith, “Another poll by the Pew Research Center found that 83 percent of Democrats and 81 percent of Republicans support background checks for all gun purchases” (1). Stronger restrictions are like deeper background checks on the gun buyer just to see if they have a criminal record or if they are mentally insane. Ponnuru said, “A CBS/ New York Times poll found that 26 percent of the public, a minority not much larger than the one that wants to ban handguns, thinks that ‘stricter gun control’ would ‘help a lot’ to stop gun violence” (1). Even though there are not many people that want stricter gun laws, stricter gun laws would help in many ways for there to be a stop in gun violence. With stricter background checks many groups of people that are not suppose to have guns right now will be checked and will not be able to get guns anymore. This will stop from having a lot of mass
