How many hits is too many? There is no doubt that football is one of America's favorite sports. It has seeped into our culture, captivating the minds of young and old alike.But, even such a loved sport is not without its faults. Recently there has been major concerns regarding the impact football can have on the human brain.People are starting to become aware of just how serious brain injuries are, although it might not be as apparent as it should be.The system put in place to protect players is insufficient, due to the lack of reaction to the problem, the fact that young children are still allowed to play, and the possibility that Pop Warner hires unskilled coaches. With every action there is a reaction. When it is revealed that ninety six percent of tested former NFL players were suffering from CTE, a degenerative brain disease, the NFL's reaction should have been massive. This was unfortunately not the case. While measures were put in place, they were not sufficient. The league is quoted as saying, "We continue to make significant investments..." The youth years are major years of development, and a contact reliant sport such as football can, and has, wreak havoc on the brain. Making the assumption that five year old children aren't signing themselves up for this, the blame lies on the parents. They should be informed about the terrible consequences that can result from the brain injuries that can come from football. Take Joseph Chernach for example. Starting out as a typical child, him playing football is likely one of the key contributors to him ending his own life as a result of CTE.
