The United States is a welcoming oasis for immigrants all around the world wanting to experience the American dream. With the American dream comes higher wages, a sense of security, and a fresh start, things that are hard to come by in other parts of the world. Though some of these benefits may not be as promising for those immigrants that cheated the system and are here illegally leeching off the tax dollars of hardworking American citizens. Even though they are here illegally they can still partake in many endeavors, such as going to school and obtaining jobs along with government welfare. On top of all these unpaid for luxuries the government is now offering The Dream Act allowing for cheaper higher education to a select group of illegal

Now with the help of the government and the Dream Act illegal immigrants can have the same experiences as everyone else. Many illegal immigrants though in a better place then their home country suffer from psychosocial-educational difficulties according to Kim (55-58). With the help of the Dream Act allowing them to pursue a higher education at the in-state tuition rate not only gives them hope, but also a second chance at turning their life around. With the permit the immigrants now can pay taxes and contribute to the United States economy in a positive way just like every other citizen. As a result, if they use the assistance of the government’s welfare they will have put forth the effort which would allow them to do so in a fair way. Immigrants now that were once illegal can prove to be an influence to others in the same situation and urge them to take the road less driven and begin a new life. With more illegals receiving a higher education they will be able to earn more money allowing them to work in different settings then accustomed to. With the new aspect of diversity in an uncommon workplace the immigrants are able to apply their high-leveled skills. From the flood of illegal immigration has come a detrimental effect on the economy. From the discounted rates of college tuition to the decrease in American wages America has seen nothing but negative effects. Now that the government is offering a simple path to citizenship they jump at the chance, yet wouldn’t apply at all when there was no offer on the table. Many states are not in favor of this act and cheaper tuition; in fact over 27 states will not offer in-state tuition to Dreamers (Luzer 10).
