I agree with you that we should celebrate Columbus day. Maybe not necessarily the same way we do now. Perhaps if we follow what Denver, CO did. You mentioned in paragraph 10 that they, “offered a compromise involving an Italian Pride parade without mention of Columbus”. This still brings awareness to their culture and celebrates their past, present, and future. If we do this it would console those opposed. I think America wants to grow as a nation, and if dividing Columbus name from the holiday would encourage more to celebrate i think it would benefit us.
This holiday doesn’t support being disrespectful towards American Indians. Contrastly it just supports pride in the Italian-Americans past. Of course it should not be required but celebrating it shows respect for these Italian-Americans. In a country where racism, sexism, and classism still exist, we need days to appreciate different cultures and backgrounds. This is important for our country to show respect for all lifestyles and backgrounds. My view on Bigfoot isn't necessarily that he exists but that i think it’s possible. A giant primate of this sort definitely could exist however unlikely it is. There have been many hoaxes and maybe even fake videos. Contrastingly there is some evidence found that supports the idea of bigfoot. Hairs have been found that do not belong to any species. Several eyewitness accounts believe they sincerely saw Bigfoot. Yes, there is evidence going against Bigfoot and for him, but my opinion doesn’t change. It’s possible that he exists, but who has the say in whether he does or doesn’t. The world allows us some type of mystery and if this is what gives some people hope and happiness in believing then why discourage
