When cancer cells form in the breast, they originate inside a gland that makes milk called lobules, then trails the pathway where the breast milk drains out of the mammary glands. The irregular cells can become invasive and spread throughout all the breast tissues, invading the lymph nodes, which is an essential organ in the body that filters out foreign substances that help fight infection and disease (National Cancer Institute). Without the lymph node properly functioning, the body can shut down and stop protecting the anatomy functions from harmful substances. There are three main types of breast cancer: ductal carcinoma in situ, invasive ductal carcinoma, and invasive lobular carcinoma. Ductal carcinoma in situ is described as an abnormal cell growth that has not fully developed to take over the breast (DCIS). The second type is called invasive ductal carcinoma which is when cancer cells break through the inner membrane of the breast and slowly start to spread throughout the tissues of the breast (IDC). The last type is invasive lobular is when cancer cells that have broken completely through the inner membrane of the lobule and will start to attack and spread rapidly to the breast tissues
