Now visualize this. A kid, who wears a dingy, tattered military uniform, helplessly standing in the midst of warzone where the stench of death from all of his fallen comrades and enemies is everywhere. Child soldiers have become an issue when organizations such as the LRA, ISIS and much more out there are still aggressively recruiting child soldiers in secret to enhance their strength for their militant group. ISIS is believed to have recruited more than 1100 children and more than 50 child soldiers have died in the year 2015 from fighting for their Syria militant group (International Business Time). 80% of Syrians have plunged into poverty and nearly 3 million Syrians lost their main source of income due to the war (The guardian). On top of that, most of the families were in an economic situation that could not afford to have a kid, hence these children had no choice but to volunteer to become a child soldier due to the attractive financial incentives that were offered by the forces in order for the kids to buy themselves basic needs. However, children who are from this background might also have been coerced by their parents because the financial aid can be directly paid to the family instead. Indirectly, social injustice leads to indiscriminate poverty which gives rise to volunteerism among children to enlist. From my perspective, nations who live in such a harsh environment had forced to deny their human rights, children’s rights. Polline, a 12-year-old teenager was abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda to join an army (War Child 6). If only, Polline and her families were born in our country, Malaysia, Polline will not have been forced to cook, to kill, to torture and to serve, but she will be worrying about the upcoming exams, what to eat for dinner and which Barbie doll she should buy instead.
