Designer babies Over the last week in our seventh grade science class we have learned about genetic engineering. The first topic we learned about was GMO’s. GMO is a genetically modified organism. An example of that is modifying food such as corn. The next topic we learned about was genetic disease. A genetic disease is a sickness that is inherited by offspring. An example of that is diabetes or different cancers. The last topic we learned about was genetically modifying babies, which are usually called designer babies. A designer baby is where the parents of the baby get to choose the characteristics and traits of their infant while their child is still an embryo. I believe this because of the religious point of view on this. According to the Bible, Matthew 10:29-31 states, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” This shows how God knows the number of every hair on your head and every living thing is as important to him as the next. So you shouldn’t change his creation to help yourself when all he has done is help you.
