Designer babies have been the debate for a few years now, placed upon a shaky moral platform. With human science pushing the boundaries of human genetics further and further, many are questioning if designer babies have finally crossed the line in science. The problem is that people view designer babies on a moral perspective rather than a medical one. Designer babies should be tolerated because they can help parents prevent their offspring from having certain diseases and disabilities. The core reason to why designer babies should be allowed is because of the elimination of disease. With designer babies, parents will have the choice of what type of traits their child will have, from preventing a certain disease determining sex. Famous singer John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in spring 2016, "announc[ing] they not only wanted a girl but chose the gender of their baby. People against designer babies are afraid that if they are put into effect, it will create a rift in society; separating the generation that has had modified genes versus the natural group. For example, "there are concerns, particularly in some Asian countries, about societies valuing boys more than girls" (Storrs). This is when human morality comes into play with designer babies. Yet, they overlook the fact that society has different tastes in specific traits, looks, and personality. The community will still have a blend of people with different skin tones, hair color, personality, and interests; all up to the choice of the parents.
