Over one third of the patient backlog of VA hospitals have already died and no one bothers taking them off the list. Most veterans are treated unfairly to the point where some die. Congress rewarded our military with the G.I. Bill of Rights. This program educated our veterans in mass and provided 100% mortgages and medical help which was gravely needed. Although these programs are in place this does not support all of the military veterans. The amount of homeless American soldiers is outrageous. "The number of homeless veterans in America was estimated at 49,933 in January 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development"(Shaw 1). This is an issue because these veterans risked their lives at war just to come back with mental issues and little money to support their needs. Veterans are given support like money but it is not always enough to help them. "More than 40,000 homeless vets receive compensation or pension benefits each month, but that’s not enough to find affordable housing, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. Many vets have skills learned through the military that are not applicable for occupations in civilian life"(Shaw 7). This also gives support to why many of them are homeless. "Almost half of the 2.2 million troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan report difficulties on their return home, but many receive inadequate care from the US Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, according to a new study published on Tuesday"(McVeighr). These people are wrong because the amount of scuicides from veterans are 50% higher than the nonmilitary veterans. This shows that the care they are given does not work. Most veterans are given support from the V.A. but this still does not help the 20% of veterans with PTSD from the Iraq and Afghanistan war. The problem with this is the care given is not enough or not good
