Maxine Waters serve as the representative from California’s 43rd District, which is the district that corresponds to me in my area since I live on south central Los Angeles. Congresswoman Maxine Waters have also served in California’s 35th District and in California’s 29th District. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University at Los Angeles (Biographical Directory of the United States Congress, n.d). Serving more than one district in California has gained her the advantage to be familiar with how the public sector functions.

These committees are the Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises, Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, Housing and Insurance, Monetary Policy and Trade, and Oversight and Investigations. In each five of these committees within the Financial Services, she is the Ex Officio, subcommittee. Ex Officio is Latin for “from the office” and it means to characterize someone who has the right to sit on a committee only because the person is president of the association (“Ex Officio,” 2005). This allows her to ensure the safety in her district banking industry; something that I am sure she is interesting in working with, so corporations can have control over their money.
In the Housing and Insurance, the subcommittee is in charge of topics associated with “rental housing, community and economic development, homeownership, and rural housing issues” (Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, n.d). When Maxine Water’s sits on this particular committee, her main objective is to obtain more resources for the low-income community.
Congresswoman Maxine Water’s has been assigned to being the subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade.
