Representatives Some of the people representing the state of Texas in congress are Louie Gohmert, Ted Poe, Sam Johnson, and John Ratcliffe, just to name a few. All of the people listed are men, and all of them are republican. In fact, only 33 out of 36 representatives are male, and only 11 out of 36 are democratic. Both senators, Ted Cruz and John Cornyn are male republicans as well. Brian Babin, the head representative, also falls into the categories of a) male and b) republican. Since congress is currently overrun with males, I believe it would be appropriate to shed light on the three congresswomen. She was the first African-American and the first woman to rank in the House Committee of Science and Technology. She was also the first Registered Nurse to be elected to congress, as well as the first African-American to ever be elected to public office from Dallas, and she was the first woman to hold a chair in the Texas House Committee. As a nurse, she was the first African-American woman to serve as Chief Psychiatric Nurse at the Dallas V.A. Hospital, a position that she held for 16 years, leaving to serve in office as a Texas House Representative. She is currently serving her 12th term as a federal representative. Jackson Lee also belongs to the Committee of Homeland Security, which oversees the Department of Homeland Security, she also serves on the following subcommittees: Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies: Protects the homeland from cyber and technological attacks. Border, Maritime Security: Responsible for visa, port, border and maritime security. Johnson serves on the House Committee of Science, Space, and Technology, which holds jurisdiction over non defensive scientific development. She also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee, as well as it’s subcomittees, aviation, highway and transit, and water and environment resources, which have specific jurisdiction of transportation by their respective methods of movement. Water and environment resources also handles clean and waste water management, pipeline transportation, and flood damage reduction.
