Supporting our camping program is the evaluation process completed at each Kanawha County Camp measuring essential elements and lifeskills. This instrument evaluates whether the camp itself contains one or more of the elements needed to achieve positive outcomes in youth. After years of assessments, Kanawha County camps are productive, safe, educational and inclusive environments yet Kanawha has a lower than average representation of male campers at camp. At the state level, 4-H camps tend to have, on average, 38%. In younger residential camp, male campers tend to make between 30% and 35% of the campers.
“Quote about high schools.” One other way to pass time in the camp was for teenagers and kids to take activities just like outside the camp. They had dance, acting, and baton twirling classes; there were even classes about Buddhism and Catholicism. Adults would teach the children in the community different skills or talents they had to pass the time, heal loneliness, and to keep their sense of culture and community alive in the
In Allan Levine’s article “How a Summer Camp Taught Me What It Means to be Jewish in North America,” Levine highlights his personal experiences of how attending Camp Massad, a Jewish summer camp, positively influenced him growing up as a Jew in North America during the 1960s. Levine wrote this article to educate and reminisce on the importance of Jewish summer camps to Jewish youth and culture. Levine defines and explains jargon specific to individuals who have attended Jewish summer camp to ensure those unfamiliar with the topic understand his points. An example is when Levine explains the meaning of the phrase “Ruach,” meaning spirit, a term familiar to those who have attended Jewish summer camp. Levine draws on personal experiences to convey
Camp Friendship is a camp associated with the Arc. At this camp, I was a counselor for a child who had a mental disability. My camper definitely enjoyed his week there because I made sure he was having fun. Since I was able to do this we became friends and we both share the memory of doing so. The other camp I participated in was a diabetic camp held at Camp Soles.
The Cambridge Dictionaries Online defines sleepaway camp as “a place where children can go to stay without their parents and do activities”. As someone who never gone to sleepaway camp, I have a somewhat biased view of sleepaway camps as something that is not healthy for children, but as a writer, I have done research on sleepaway topics to see how people today in the 21st century view it. When a child goes to sleepaway camp, they have a chance to meet kids who are different from friends in their hometown, but on the other hand, they miss valuable time with their parents that they don’t get during the school year especially if at least one of the parents don’t work at a full-time job. Parents can do as much research as they want to the camp they could be sending their children to but they there
The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler exploits the corruption and the absence of justice that was present in the 1930s. The novel is set in Los Angeles, which at the time was full of scheming city workers. The combination of dynamic and static characters in the story leads the reader into a whirlwind of murders that are unavenged. “Good-guy” detective Phillip Marlowe, is seen as a modern-day knight, left to slay the dragon and rescue the damsel in distress. However, the inexplicable amount of “dragons” that Chandler presents in the novel hinder Marlowe from being able to accomplish his goals without obstacles.
I have been greatly challenged and rewarded by the campers I have interacted with here. One of the greatest challenges I have faced while serving in this role is finding a healthy balance between focusing on the needs of other and focusing on myself. Throughout the summer, I am constantly focusing on the emotional, spiritual, mental and physical needs of campers. There is little time and
For many people during WWII, life in concentration camps was a cruel and unjust fate. Before we dive into this topic, it is important to define what a concentration camp is. A concentration camp is defined as a guarded compound for the detention or imprisonment of aliens, members of ethnic minorities, political opponents, radical or pacifist groups, etc. Its savage conditions and inhumane treatment of innocent victims left an indelible mark on their souls. The prisoners' physical suffering was only matched by the psychological torture they endured: starvation, sleep deprivation, overcrowding and substandard living quarters, incessant labor for little pay, and no freedom to move around.
Co-sleeping is a hotly debated topic between mothers and scholars alike. Should children and infants sleep with their parents or should they sleep in their own space? Many people believe that co-sleeping is vastly superior and has numerous benefits, short-term and long-term, while others believe that co-sleeping is dangerous. A large divide between those who are for co-sleeping and those who are against it comes from cultural differences in the Western world and everywhere else. I will be arguing that co-sleeping is natural and that parents should be encouraged to co-sleep with their children by pediatricians and parent educators.
You are presented with opportunities to minister as well as get ministered to. The community of believers that passport facilities has no parallel. It's one of love and acceptance of all people, and it's a beautiful thing to be a part of. But don’t forget this a summer camp, full days of laughter and excitement are in store.
Nazi Concentration Camps were created by Adolf Hitler to murder millions of Jewish people. Many were straved, abused, overworked, and completely dehumanized. Jewish people were forced to come to these camps, and many never left. What are the most historically “famous” Concentration Camps, and why? Auschwitz, Treblinka, and Belzec are some of the most historically famous Concentration camps because of the extreme conditions inmates faced.
Auschwitz 1.1 million Jews were killed in Auschwitz alone. Just think about how many Jews would have been killed if we didn’t intrude. The information I have is important to hear so that: we can be informed, inform others, and let it never happen again. In this essay you will learn about their daily meals, the statistics, and how the selections worked.
Children are dying left and right, fighting a fight they shouldn’t even dream of fighting. Children no older than the age of eight are bearing arms, carrying guns, and becoming suicide bombers. What’s worse is when that child is expected to accomplish these tasks without complaining, without hesitating, they expect children to be “killing machines”. That’s the kind of life a Forced Child soldier lives. This is also considered as a type of slavery since the child is forced into this field of work.
A Day in a Nazi Concentration Camp Soon after Adolf Hitler’s appointment to chancellor in 1933, the construction of concentration camps began in Germany (“Introduction to the Holocaust”). The Nazis then began to build detention facilities to house those who they believed were lesser than them, such as Jews, homosexuals, Socialists, and Gypsies (“Concentration Camps”). Dachau was the first concentration camp set up by the Nazies. Twenty two main concentration camps had been built by the end of World War II along with 1,200 affiliate camps (“Nazi Camps”). Arrival at concentration camps was brutal.
