Social security plays one of the major roles in the economy because it is something that every person who works pays for. We all hear this term and think where does it come from and how do we get this money? What benefits come with it and how does it benefit us right now even though we can’t use it. To sum this up social security is a federal program for disability and retirement benefits that covers most people with a job. 90 percent of all American workers contribute to the social security system. The people who benefit are retirees, survivors, disabled persons, and Medicare recipients. Survivors are just spouses and children of deceased persons covered by social security. And Medicare only provides health insurance for people who are 65 and older. Hence all the money that you pay now will help you when it’s time for you to retire. …show more content…

Every month 14 million people get a check from social security whether they have an actual disability or not. It’s been said by people and it’s been said in articles that some people fake their disabilities just so they can get their check and not have to work. This has become an increasing problem in the United States and it doesn’t look like it going to stop anytime soon. In one article it stated that Sonny Ryan who is now a retired judge never wanted to hear the disability cases in his courtroom but it came up too often. So he finally decided to hear one and what he found out was astonishing. A man came in with high blood pressure and diabetes claiming that this was his disability. Sonny said so did he yet he but that didn’t slow him down and he was still working. Nowadays people will you anything as an excuse to get their check every month and not have to do anything for it.
