In the debate about the Syrian refugees I learned many things mainly from the research I did on my side. I chose the side that was for Syrian refugees and a few agreed with me. From the debate I learned that this is a very split decision seeing how there was an equal amount of people on each side of the classroom. There was also a lot of people who chose inbetween and didn’t pick one side. From one of the worksheets I was given, I learned many new words that were connected to Syrian refugees. Most of the words on the paper I had little no understanding on what it meant. Some of these words were: Expatriates, Homogeneity, and Ethnocentrism. I also learned a lot of info from the websites I found like CNN. I learned info about how refugees are connected to terrorism and how little of a chance there is to have a refugee commit a terrorist attack. This was the main topic I had on my notes. I really enjoyed how people would go back and forth arguing with each about it but I feel like having to raise our hands kinda defeated the whole thing. I feel like if we could just continue going back and forth it would have been more fun and seem less like a school project. Another thing I liked about the debate was that we had nearly the whole class to do it which gave us plenty of time to debate. Another thing I liked was how entertaining it was to hear people arguing with each other. The main problem I had with the debate was the topic. I know that it was the thing we were talking about in class for the last few days but I think if we knew a little bit more about the topic. We could also pick a topic that was more entertaining. I think the best way to do this is to have a vote on maybe like 5 different topics and build a debate about the one that gets the most vote. Lastly I don’t like the idea of having us do a reflection on the debate like this
