Tissue and Organ Donation
To be a tissue and organ donor can save up to eight lives though organ donation and save or heal more than 100 lives through tissue donation (Donate Life Colorado n.d.). Organs to be donated include heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and small intestine. Tissues that can be transplanted include skin, bone, tendons, corneas, veins, and valves. No one is forced to be a donor it is something each individual adult can make the decision for them self. People do not have to be dead to donate; there is living donation where you can donate a kidney, part of a liver, and lung (Donate Life Colorado n.d.). One thing I had always thought was that if I did do donation I could not have an open casket after looking on donatelifecolorado.org I had learned that you are still able to have an open casket and that they treat you with dignity while harvesting your organs and tissues.
