Mostly everyone knows about werewolves, some think they’re real and some think they aren’t real. The ones who believe they’re real believe when there’s a full moon werewolves will come out and hunt people and howl. For the ones who don’t they believe werewolves were just created to scare.
Werewolves came from Europe originally but have been widespread throughout the early modern periods. The name comes from Old English meaning man-wolf or from the lycanthrope or Greek where lykos means wolf and Anthropos means human. The beliefs in werewolves were similar to the beliefs in witches. Both witches and werewolves were hunted, questioned, and executed or referred to as the wolf trials or the witch trials.
Werewolves are mythological or folkloric humans, which are humans with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf or a wolf like creature on purpose or by curse. A werewolf and a wolf have different behavior. A wolf doesn’t attack humans as we think they do. Whereas a werewolf targets humans because humans cause the most harm or act as a threat to them. To become one if you’re bitten by a werewolf at a full moon would transform you into one. The mixture of wolf saliva and human blood will cause the transformation only if the werewolf has changed at the sign of a full moon.
