James Otis had written a document “the rights of the British colonies” after parliament had passed the sugar act in 1761.Otis argued that it is the people that give power to the government. Otis also argued that if a government is found “incorrigible” , the “government should be disposed by the people.” Otis also argued that parliament deprives the colonists of their most essential rights as free man because of all the taxes parliament was enacting. During the 1920s, there was a lot of change going on in the country. The automobile industry, the airplane industry, newer modern corporations and management styles, and newer machinery all boosted the economy, and electricity was used. Cities grew as new jobs became available. The 20s saw presidents Warren Harding and all his scandals, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover. In the 20s, we were boosting from the economy, and making our market global.
In the years between 1900 to 1930, there were some detrimental events of Mexican migration, Stock Market Crash, etc. But the three decades was more beneficial than detrimental. In the 1920s, America reached their highest standard of living of all time. People were getting the job and making more money. Two biggest industry of that time were Automobile and construction.
The 1920s carried much change in society. Some of these changes were more rights for women, jazz music, and prohibition. The people of the 1920s were disillusioned by society lacking in idealism and vision, sense of personal alienation, and Americans were obsessed with materialism and outmoded moral values (The Roaring Twenties).Cultural changes were strongly influenced by the destruction of World War I ending 1918. America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.

In the late 1800’s, two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, quickly realized that women would not be able to share their political views unless given the right to vote. Because of the fact that women had basically no other societal roles besides housework, they were not respected during this time period.

Wealth, poverty, technology, decadence, the Gilded Age was a time of change and uprooting of past systems, schools of thought, and standards. It was a time of both hope and doubt for the majority of the population and brought many to be empty handed or exceedingly wealthy.
