Decisions made in the 1850s ultimately decided the United States fate. From the election of 1856 to the Dred Scott case, the nation would become divided into two. The South was pro-slavery and supported the idea of slavery expanded into western territories, while the North opposed of the idea and was mainly against expanding slavery. Until the 1850s the nation barely balanced the slavery issue.
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?

Should we spend taxpayer money to invest in the space program? The space program is a program to pioneer the future in space exploration. The program has consumed about 18.4 billion dollars on trying to explore the barren and empty place they call space. This money that 's used on this space exploration comes from our taxpayers.
The Alaskan Bush is one of the hardest places to survive without any assistance, supplies, skills, and little food. Jon Krakauer explains in his biography, Into The Wild, how Christopher McCandless ventured into the Alaskan Bush and ultimately perished due to lack of preparation and hubris. McCandless was an intelligent young man who made a few mistakes but overall Krakauer believed that McCandless was not an ignorant adrenalin junkie who had no respect for the land. Krakauer chose to write this biography because he too had the strong desire to discover and explore as he also ventured into the Alaskan Bush when he was a young man, but he survived unlike McCandless. Krakauer’s argument was convincing because he gives credible evidence that McCandless was not foolish like many critics say he was.
Colonizing Mars It takes nine months to get to the red planet. Nine long months in a spaceship without much food, oxygen, water, little living space, and only other people to keep you company. Colonization of Mars is not okay because the planet is deadly, the trip is long, and the atmosphere is frigid. Mars is very deadly, unlike Earth.
This Mars is a waste of money because they are wasting money to give people risks that can let them die. I know people who think going to Mars is awesome. I know that it can be an exciting adventure and that it can be fun going to explore Mars, but Mars is dangerous and is not worth to take the risk. It is very risky and even though it is fun, you still should not go on a dangerous
Space has helped hone the skills of scientist. By using satellite technology for space, they were able to use the same concept for Earth. Even with all the benefits of space, its major down falls are cost, risks, and low chances of reward for their efforts. Many space explorations cost fortunes with little to come out of it, making it almost seem not worth it. The risk is another key factor, with little known about the majority of space, many outliers can appear out of nowhere and can cause death to anyone that happens to be working up there.
One of the most well known astronomers of all time is Nicolaus Copernicus. He was known to think outside of the box and dreamt of bigger things in life. Copernicus did not see the world and its surroundings like everyone else did. Having such a brilliant mind helped him discover an important theory. Many scientists and astronomers would never see our solar system the same.
On September 12, 1962, at Rice University in Houston Texas, John F. Kennedy gave a powerful speech to garner support for the funding of the space race for the USA. He stated the importance of putting a man on the moon before the end of the decade in its efforts against the Soviet Union and the expectation was met in 1969 by the astronaut Neil Armstrong. His speech forged a new path that the US was heading and inherently started the revolution of the exploration of outer space. Kennedy’s “Moon Speech” makes use of ethos and Kairos to persuade the people of America to become interested in and invest in the ongoing space race. A very important factor in JFK’s speech was his effective use of rhetoric, notably ethos, which he used to make himself become more believable and authoritative.
Scientific research has revolutionized the perspective of the universe. With the birth of space research organizations, the space exploration programs have hiked in numbers. Major developed and developing nations have entered the race to colonize the space. Thus, governments in various countries are allocating extravagant expenditures for space expeditions.
Many people think that space exploration is a waste of money. They think that people shouldn’t be looking to the stars and that space exploration is unnecessary. Then there is the people who think otherwise. People from NASA, or people who just in general love space ,want to fund for the cause. They think that space can help the economy improve and that there is more to space than stars and a bunch of planets.
The term “safe space”, a supposed haven where students of minority and marginalization can feel free to express their ideas and be themselves has started a movement across college campuses nationwide. The newfangled movement is driven largely by students who wish to scrub campuses clean of offensive or discomforting topics. Safe spaces emerged during the post-Civil Rights era where women, LGBTQ, and racial minorities grew in presence on campuses; however, today they serve as refuges for like-minded people who don’t feel the need to explain or defend their personal beliefs.
