Angelo: Around 1948, marijuana was thought to be affiliated with Communism. So this meant that people will become weaker and easier to control by the government because of marijuana. Kelly: As years went on, marijuana continued to be illegal, and many different opinions arose about the legalization of marijuana. So, while oppositions believe that legalizing marijuana will cause a high number of people to abuse this drug, advocates believe marijuana will decrease crimes and increase revenue costs for the government. Kelly: Yet, another thing is the reason why marijuana is illegal in most states is because of its dangerous effects, especially for teenagers. Teenagers are not aware of the repercussions of marijuana. The long-term effects of marijuana are still not known, so we do not know how heavily this will affect these adolescents and even adults who are using marijuana as a medication. Sebastion: Well, if the sole reason why marijuana is illegal is because of its dangerous effects to teenagers or the population, then substances like alcohol, which kill people, and tobacco, which kill people, would be illegal, as well.
