Arguments Against Animal Cloning

Introduction

Modern DNA testing has made it possible to be able to clone endangered and extinct species, which is why there are many reasons and reasons no to clone extinct species, which is why scientists have been arguing about it for many years. The process of animal cloning is when a single cell is used to reproduce an entire organism in an identical manner. The animal will the have the exact same DNA of the animal it was copied from. Each scientist who is debating this argument has their own idea whether or not animals should be cloned. This report will present the facts surrounding why animal cloning is not of great value to the world.

This constant fail can cause many negative effects of the host animal due to the number of stillborn that occur. The animals that do survive die a painful death within the first few weeks of living. The European Parliament has issued a proposal to ban animal cloning in Europe, and to also ban the importation of cloned animals from other countries due to the negative impacts that cloning is having on the animals (EP Wants Animal Cloning Ban Extended to Offspring and Import, 2015).
Another issue regarding animal welfare is the fact that many animals come out having a variety of health problems from oversized heads, kidney issues, twisted limbs and repertory diseases. These deformities are rarely seen on animals who were born naturally, compared to the large amount of cloned animals who are born with these deformities (Polejaeva, et al., 2013).
According to the World Organisation for Animal health there are five freedoms for animals which are freedoms from hunger, physical discomfort, malnutrition and thirst, pain and disease and also to be able to behave as a regular animal does (World Organisation for Animal Health, 2015). These five freedoms should be applied to the testing of cloned animals and also for the surrogate …show more content…

If they are introduced to the wild, it may cause a disruption to the food chain and have a negative impact on the environment. Studies have shown that if cloned animals are released into the wild, that there is a large chance of them being wiped out due to the same diseased which killed the originals animals in the first place. This is due to the fact that each clone has the exact same genetic information, meaning that they would all have the same immune systems which all could be weak from the same disease (Smith, Bordignon, Babkine, & Fecteau G & Keefer,
