Arguments Against Stereotyping

People keep on asking, why do you care so much about how you look? Why do you care so much about what others think? Why do you try so hard just to fit in a crowd? This is because of stereotypes. According to Merriam Webster, stereotyping is to believe unfairly that all people or things with particular characteristics are the same. These stereotypes can affect people’s social lives, emotions, and how people interact with their environment in a bad way and this afternoon, I will be telling you why.
Although stereotype is correct in some cases, I think that we should put an end to it. Stereotyping can be hurtful because it puts others down ending up with no motivation in life. For instance, if you call someone obese, how would this make him feel good? It would only cause more hatred on his self. And for another instance, girls are said to be bad drivers. This causes pressure to them that they have to prove that those stereotypes are wrong. These stereotypes let us think that we have to do everything perfectly. And this may reach a point where we don’t speak about how we feel at all because we’re afraid that we might say something wrong. We are afraid of failure. All Muslims are said to be terrorists. All blondes are dumb. And there are so much more stereotypes that you could think of. We keep on talking about equality or how we should treat everyone fairly, but how would we achieve that if we stereotype everyone we meet? What if that girl who wears black clothes is a happy-go-lucky person? What if that Muslim you met at a park is actually one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet?
