2017 Houston Astros Scandal
Allowing the Houston Astros to retain their 2017 World Series title is completely irresponsible by Major League Baseball and thus destroys the integrity of America's greatest pastime. The Houston Astros used a camera cheating system that allowed their hitters to know what pitch was coming while at the plate for the duration of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Teams in the past who have cheated have received major punishment whereas the 2017 Houston Astros, World Series champions, did not. The Houston Astros should have their 2017 World Series title revoked. They were given an unfair advantage via their cheating system. By not revoking their title MLB is influencing other teams to cheat since no large punishment was handed

Their argument is formed on the basis that they were not cheating during every game which makes their scandal not as bad. Where their argument fails is that it does not matter that they used it during the regular season, and only in home games. It matters because they highly benefitted during the playoffs. In the 2017 playoffs, Houston Astros star, Jose Altuve, had a batting average of .472, hit 6 HRs, and had 12 RBIs while at home. On the road, his batting average was .143, with 1 HR, and 2 RBIs. Regarding these statistics, the website 12Up writes, "So, is this all a coincidence? We think not. These stats further prove that Houston was playing with an unfair advantage in 2017. The difference between their hitting numbers while playing at home compared to their numbers on the road are night and day" (Loughmiller). These statistics continue to prove the extent of the advantage the Astros received. With their star player, Jose Altuve, having a .329 batting average difference, between home and away and the rest of the team's batting average skyrocketing, while at home, it was nearly impossible for the Astros to lose in the playoffs.
