In the intercalary chapter number 25, Steinbeck shows the decay of morals and also physical decay in the chapter. He contrasts land that is used naturally for its nutrients, and land used, or in Steinbeck’s eyes, wasted for profits. The chapter has some apocalyptic overtones throughout. Steinbeck uses vivid imagery and harsh statements to convey his message. The chapter seems to show how there are consequences for interrupting the lands life force to line ones pockets.

He focused on how "progress progresses too fast," disputing that things might have been better if the Once-Ler had been reasonable with the Truffula forest and slowed production of the Thneeds. The Lorax shared that, "it takes 10 months for a trffula tree seed to germinate.
Deforestation is the removal of hundreds and even thousands of trees in an area. This is an issue today because people continue cut down trees and clear all forest life for it to be used in land for houses, malls, farms, and other places for humans to inhabit. As well as the products of the trees to make buildings and paper. In the Lorax, all of the trees were cut down to make a “Thneed”, which was made out of the leaves of the trees in the story. This is what caused all of the fresh air to vanish, because without trees and other plant life, we would not have as much oxygen as we need to breathe.
Basically the lorax says to the Once-ler, you don’t belong here this forest belongs to nature.
"The most dangerous sicknesses are those that make us believe we are well. " This is a quote from the book of Shhh, but in this scenario, it also relates to The Lorax. Though the Onc-ler thinks he is doing will cause no harm,and will have no negative repercussion, consequently , he is doing much harm to the inhabitants of the tree-filled acreage, not only that but he is building a foundation for a dystopian society. In this dystopian city, the citizens are oblivious to the fact that they, in fact, do not live in a utopia but a true dystopia.

Several factors that contributed to the extinction of trees on the island included the constant chopping of trees to build canoes, to transport statues, to build to plant gardens, and to burn them for fires. The large population of rats that chewed palm nuts, also contributed to the extinction of trees. 2. If I would have arrived on the island before the tree populations were extinct, I would have advised the Easter Islanders to slow down the production of canoes, statues, houses, and gardens.

The theme of Greed and Wealth are infused into The Lorax with the greediness of the Truffula trees and how one person that is selfish, gets rid of many others. The Lorax speaks for the trees and his family and gives many wise words towards the Once-ler on what his decisions might cost him. Greed and Wealth in anyone can overpower their personality and change them into an entirely different person then they really are.
By understanding nature, he can understand a human’s true and rightful intentions. An important observation made by Sharon Levy is “Steinbeck was saying that we need to see the complex interconnections in nature” (10). By this she means, every person, animal, and plant is connected. There is the aspect of the circle of life and everything is renewed eventually. It would therefore be more realistic to encourage all parties involved in the process of deforestation to manage the resources of the forest in a sustainable way. This means that the usage of the methods of clear-cutting and burning would have to be eliminated if the forest ecosystem is to be able to remain intact. If certain trees need to be cut down, however, then theses should be replaced by enough young trees which can fill the same role to an equal extent as the ones which are cut down. Here it’s important to acknowledge that it’s impossible to eliminate deforestation completely since the growing population puts a high demand for more land which is used for agricultural purposes. Therefore the solution must include keeping a balance between deforestation and efforts of reforestation, sustainable management of forests and respecting the integrity of protected
With deforestation being one of these roles because when we chop down these trees and plants of where animals habitats our it also releases a lot of carbon dioxide into the air. And if you didn’t know forests are major carbon storage centers, when deforestation happens all the carbon dioxide that is stored in these forests; is released back into the atmosphere. Deforestation not only contributes to changes in the climate, it also causes localized changes in the weather. Trees transpire, or release water into the atmosphere, during photosynthesis. This water replenishes clouds and maintains rainfall.
