Comparison Of Kaffir Boy And Juan Enriquez's TED Talk

The lorax, Kaffir Boy and Juan Enriquez’s TED Talk can all be connected through one major theme: bullying. The lorax includes the main themes greediness and selfishness. Kaffir Boy includes many instances of peer pressure, racism and violence. Juan Enriquez’s Ted Talk mentions lifecode, which basically depicts the reasoning of changing natural life into synthetic life.

First of all, the lorax is a poem written by Dr. Suess. Even though Dr. Suess’s main audience consists of elementary schoolers, he has hidden fairly complex underlying messages in his poem. One of the greatest examples of Dr. Suess’s capability of inserting underlying messages in his poems is seen in the lorax. Because the Once-ler continuously cuts down the truffula trees, he is obtaining much wealth, but at the same time he is damaging the entire environment. This can be seen as bullying because the Once-ler is harming the environment, but is only doing good for himself. It is almost like a big kid taking a little kid's lunch money. Basically the lorax says to the Once-ler, you don’t belong here this forest belongs to nature.

The Kaffir boy is a story about an African, who is finding a hard time fitting in. His time is removed by helping his grandmother clean white people’s houses, gang involvement and the wrath of his antagonist father. The Kaffir boy is bullied by white children, his gang members and even his own father. Just like the lorax, the boy says that his life doesn’t belong to anybody but
