Every individual on this planet has a valuable and unique point of view, which is why our society has progressed so far in our knowledge of the past, present, and future. In Big History looking at the same data with different perspectives can lead to valuable information, extensive knowledge, theories, ideas, and observations. Aristotle had a very valuable point of view that was accepted for over 2,000 years and was used by many people to make new discoveries, including Lavoisier, who with a contrasting perspective, made many contributions to the way we understand elements in the present-day. If everybody had the same opinion, our nation would never develop and advance, because no one would ever be able to look at information and elaborate …show more content…

That's easy. Lavoisier, known as the “father of chemistry”, was just like any other person - he was a french nobleman who made his living as a tax collector, rather than a scientist. Antoine was one of the biggest influencers and made an immense contribution in progression. Lavoisier's claim was based on Aristotle, and he built from Aristotle's point of view to produce information that made more sense and was more updated. Lavoisier used the same information as everyone else, however, he had a different perspective and challenged Aristotle's theory that the material world was only made out of four elements because he felt this was incorrect. Lavoisier's point of view was that elements were more complex than previously thought, and he studied and researched until he could prove his idea. Lavoisier defined an element as a substance that cannot be broken down any further, which we now know is correct. He also progressed the knowledge in the world of modern chemistry, by accurately weighing the reacting substances, which proved the law of conservation of matter. This theory then inspired many new discoveries of elements, which is evident in the fact that 84 new elements were discovered after Lavoisier's point of view. Lavoisier was not the only one who used Aristotle's point of view to help with his theory and perspective, in fact, Dimitri Mendeleev, an incredibly intelligent person, may not have ever come up with the periodic table if he did not have the information that he had at that current
