For some like Campbell County Mayor E.L Morton, election day determines whether he keeps his current job, or whether he will soon be drawing unemployment; however, for others like Sue Marlow, an Eligibility Counselor with the Tennessee Department of Human Services, election day is the day that she gets to vote for the person who she thinks is best for the office. Both Morton and Marlow are examples of how a person should exercise their civic responsibility. The Little Rock Nine was a group of nine high school African American high school students that were prevented the right to go to Little Rock High School located in the capital of Arkansas. The nine students' names were Ernest Green, Elizabeth Eckford, Jefferson Thomas, Terrence Roberts, Carlotta Walls LaNier, Minnijean Brown, Gloria Ray Karlmark,, Thelma Mothershed, and Melba Pattillo Beals. The Little Rock Nine had a test to the Brown vs Board of education which was a court case resulting in segregation to be unconstitutional. Let's start from the very beginning. The Brown vs Board of Education case was happening because Oliver Brown of Topeka Kansas wanted to integrate schools instead of the segregation that was taking place.
The Texas Longhorn was a decedent from the Spanish cattle introduced about two-hundred years earlier. They adapted to the harsh climate, tough prairie grasses, and scarce food and water that some animals could not adapt to. These breed of cattle are known for their unique color, and their huge horns which can grow up to seven feet long. By 1865, about five million roamed the Texas grassland.

Concept: The Importance of Voting Article: “Patriot Connectors to Discuss Importance of Voting” My article began by introducing a group named the Patriot Connectors, and the entirety of the article expressed the group 's views on why people should vote and exactly how important voting is to American society. The group states that not voting or not even being registered to vote in essence, undermines America 's representative democracy. They attribute the lack of voters being related to the fact that many feel that their votes do not matter in a government system they see as unfair or rigged. The article relays the fact that voting is something citizens learn to do.
The Power of a Few Citizens America’s history is full of conflict, and also full of positive change. A prime example of this is the Civil Rights Movement. Following Reconstruction, which took place after the Civil War, Jim Crow laws and segregation rose despite efforts to achieve equality for African Americans, like the 14th and 15th Amendments (Introduction to the Civil Rights Movement). The Civil Rights Movement was a period of fighting for political, economical, social, and just about any other type of equality for African Americans. Despite extreme backlash and disapproval from white supremacist groups and racists, mainly in the South, a positive change was created, credited to the many events that took place during this time (Carson).

My first time voting, I research the candidates and prepare my voter’s card. I become excited, when in reality, this preparation is in vain.
Voter Turnout in Texas As stated in the prompt voter turnout in the state of Texas is amongst the lowest in the nation. Many people seem to be confused or in awe as to why Texas has such a low voting rate. The truth in reality is that there are quite a few reasons why the turnout in Texas is so low.

I feel that I have struggled with this because I lack confidence on what I am trying to prove or say in my writing. When reading in the past I have never pushed myself to question the author’s purpose or ask questions that invoke much thought. Up to this point in the year writing in my journal as well as annotating in the text, has helped my reading and writing immensely.
Abi H. Civic Reflection Issue 1- Change in Point of View: In Canada, voter turnout has become a major issue; as there is a large amount of the population that does not vote in elections. Back in 2008, a total of 58% of the countries` population voted in the election. This is a startling low number, which since has begun to increase only slightly in recent years. In a democratic society, voting is essential for it to function with its full potential. Doing so enacts one of your basic responsibilities as a citizen, as well as shows that you are staying involved in your community and government.
However, there are several ways to combat this problem. One way to get more voters to show up at the polls is have election officials mail ballots to all registered voters. This makes it easy for registered voters to select their candidates on their own time. This method to obtain more voters is in place in two states currently, Oregon and Washington. This method has proved effective because “in the 2010 midterm elections, just [Oregon and Washington] exceed 70 percent participation” (Koas).
In HCP draft, the things that went well for me was introduction and section one. Not really happy with the draft I submitted because I thought I could have done it better if I was able to do several drafts or at least one drafts with the topic I choose to do for the HCP where I could have received several comments and feedback from the instructor. The things that went wrong in my HCP draft was that I should have not included “Steve Casaus” criminal offender in my section two because with his it made harder to discuss about the crime rate from 1994- 2015 as he was one of those criminal offenders who have done crimes before the 1994. I wish I had talked more about increase in crimes rate specifically from 1994 to 2015 and how they have increased the crimes rate from 1994 to 2015. Moreover, I should have organized my project better where my paper would have been able to follow every paragraph step by step which would have made my HCP project much stronger.
America is regarded highly in the world, due to its economic, political, as well as social development. As countries mature politically, voter turnout is expected to increase. This is the case for most industrialized nations who experience an average voter turnout above 70%. However, it is troubling to see that America still lags below 60% in voter turnout. Viewed as one of the healthiest democracies in the world, the United States is always referred to as an example that other countries should follow.
