Being a hero must be difficult, especially for a woman. There are three man points to define a hero which is powerful, attentional, and intelligent. First, a hero needs to be powerful to get over the chilling feeling because it is difficult to face a dangerous situation. For example, in the essay “Dawn and Mary” by Brian Doyle describes two women get over the fear felling to leapt out of their chairs because they need to rescue all children from the boy with the rifle. By doing this, they need to have so much powerful.
In Joyce Carol Oats “Where Are You Going Where Have You Been,” we are introduced to two main characters. The names of the two main characters are Connie and Arnold Friend. In Oates’s short story, Arnold Friend is an imposter that tries to convince young Connie to go on a ride with him and his friend Ellie. Connie refuses to go on the ride but Arnold’s use unnatural techniques to force Connie to leave her house and go with him. Arnold Friend’s awareness of Connie’s family and friends and his ability to persuade Connie reveals that he is more than just a creepy old man trying to kidnap a young girl.
To be considered a hero a person must do a courageous act or multiple acts for the purpose of helping another. In the story “Anthem” by Ayn Rand our main character, Equality 7-2521 would be considered a hero because of his actions and the journey he goes on. In the story he wants to bring the people his invention the light bulb. Even though they reject it he still takes a huge risk to try and change the city for the better. Another example would be by the end of the book equality has figured out the true evil of the earth and he seeks to bring it down.
“A true hero isn’t measured by the size of their strength, but by the strength of their heart.” A hero is a person that does something to help or they can also save someone 's life. One example of, being a hero is Darry because he takes care of Ponyboy and Sodapop. Another example, of being a hero is Johnny when he saved Ponyboy and the little kids. A further example, of being a hero is Ponyboy when he also saved the little kid’s life and when he wanted to take the blame for killing Bob.
The characters Arnold Spirit, Mr. P, Roger, Agnes Spirit, Rowdy, Arnold Spirit, Jr Gordy, Mary spirit and Penelope have values of their own. Mr. P is a geometry teacher at Junior’s old school on the reservation. The teacher Mr. P is not enthusiastic about his job. I know this since he has to come to school in his pajamas some days. Mr. P is good person because he forgave Junior when he hurt him.
When Connie refuses he starts making threats to the wellbeing of her family. Connie who feels powerless in the situation decides to go with Arnold Friend. A reader can see Oates’s interest in being young and reckless when “they went across the highway, ducking fast across the busy road, to a drive-in restaurant where older kids hung out” (para.6). Connie and her friends ran across a
As one reads fiction novels, old and new, it is likely that one will encounter a certain type of person : a hero. It is easy, when the word “hero” comes to mind, to immediately think of dragon slayers, giant killers, and damsel savers. Although this is true in some circumstances, like Odysseus in The Odyssey, heroistic qualities consist of more than just strength and military expertise. Heroes can be quiet people who stand up for those who need it, like Juror number 8 in 12 Angry Men. Heroes can also be given this title for the people they impact, like Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird.
However, this is countered when Connie notes that “he was much older—thirty, maybe more” (315), a fact that frightens her. What Arnold is to Connie is a challenge of her want to be an adult, and a trail of her ability to deal with adult issue. Such as a man who singles her out sexual reason. Her wish to be an adult is something she seeks while passively avoiding it. Her avoidance is marked by day dreams of puppy love romance, like a typical teenager; yet, her attractive flaunt to be mature is presented as if she seeks to be an
She states, “She watched herself push the door slowly open as if she were back safe somewhere in the other doorway, watching this body and this head of long hair moving into the sunlight where Arnold Friend waited”(1420). Although she knows that she will not be safe once she opens the door, Connie still leaves with this man who until that day she knew nothing about. Why? This proves that because Connie has let her anxiety and trauma get the best of her she gave into it all, not being able to take the pressure of feeling overwhelmed. Thus, having Friend who has familiar and unfamiliar aspects to him and bring up repressed moments conquer Connie in her fight to leave this in her “unconscious” state of
Arnold Friend was there to take Connie away; away from her childhood and home, which never quite felt like home until her fantasy world deteriorated and reality set it. The next moment is pivotal, this is when Connie forgets her hedonism and becomes something of much more substance. Before Connie studies Arnold Friend’s abnormal personality and erratic behavior she is fascinated by him and even worries that she is ill prepared for this
Some ways they are different is back then children weren’t exposed to new and advanced technology like children are now. Back then the kids weren’t able to get as much education as it is available now. In the 60s there were different ways of communicating than the way we communicate to one another today in the 2000s. The types of transportations are different now you can travel by plane, train, subway, boat, and car/taxi. But back then there weren 't any subways.
Like most teenagers she is thinking only in the moment and what is going to please her. Basically Connie and her friend go to a restaurant and this creepy guy named Eddie came in to talk with them, obviously Connie isn’t thinking straight and she leaves the restaurant with this stranger Eddie. Leaving her friend behind. In the book she states “I just hate to leave her like that” (Oates, 391).
An example of a hero is Martha from The Secret Garden. Although she doesn’t necessarily save anyone from anything tragic, she seems as if she would be Mary’s Hero. She is encouraging, positive, and caring. When Mary first arrived at Misselthwaite Manor, she was a contrary little girl that hated the moor when she first saw it. However, Martha finally encouraged her to go play in the moor with stories about her brother, Dickon, and what adventures he had in the moor.
A hero needs to be strong and brave so that is why Caitlyn Jenner is a hero to many people, Caitlyn Jenner was tired of being misgendered and wanted to be a transgender women and faced discrimination for what she did. But as she showed her bravery and many other people did too by standing by her side and inspiring others to have faith in humanity and give support to others that really need it. She still stands strong to this day and many other people have come out as transgender. Because of her bravery it brought many people to not be ashamed and to be proud of one another 's gender.
Have you ever felt as if someone was treating you differently than others just because of the way you look? Arnold Spirit is the main character also known as Junior in the book, by “ Alexie, Sherman.
