Art Analysis: The Flying Fish

bridal couple floats among the flowers. The bride of the couple seems like ghost. A rooster stands next to a vase of flowers. At far right of the canvas, near the vase, a man is playing a violin. These figures are surrounded by a village, and every window of the house being opened. An upside-down house blocks the main thoroughfare. An obscure figure of a church is far away in the distance. Whole art work covered by a dark blue base, which is a cool color that gives the drawing a feeling of sadness or sorrow. The composition is collage-like, the picture seems unrelated, the painting seems not to depict a part of our real world, but more like a dream or fragments of memories pieced together. This kind of art is my favorite type, it is neither a complete copy from an authentic figure nor an abstract painting that too hard to understand. It leaves space for us to imagine. I believe that painting as an art, is about a connection between the artist and audience, it is a way to allow us to use lines, colors and figures to show our emotions and feelings. He expresses his talent through the canvas by placing different symbolic images together without losing a sense of harmony and balance. His work is composed of bold colors and dreamy figures. His surreal subject gives a space of imagination for viewers to dig out their dreams and deepest memories. Chagall created two way interaction in his art to make people enjoy and interpret the art through their own unique experiences. His work will never fail to make the viewer question the meaning behind the painting. As Chagall suggested we should let the painting speak to us. The viewer should not be limited by the rule of art, but focus on the imagery and feel the power of colors, step away from reality, and into a dreamy
