Art. It allows us, as humans, to explore and comprehend the deeper meaning of life and what that means to us individually and as a species. It can help to define who we are, our values and our traditions/beliefs are for all to see through works of art. Art makes us feel and depict emotions that cannot be described or explained. Where words may lack, art fills in. From historical pieces, created thousands of years ago, paintings and other physical visual works of art have the ability to depict the time period with strokes of a paintbrush. The power that lies within art is so immense that without art, we would lack the understanding of our culture, past, and present. Constantly being picked on and teased about the color of my skin, my weight, my enunciation of words, and other aspects of myself that I am just growing to love. It was hard to cope and since the fifth grade, I have been battling with anxiety and depression. Although it comes and goes, it still lingers amidst my highest highs and exposes the depths of my darkest thoughts at my lowest lows. Through it all, I still remain confident and hopeful that better days are soon to come. Art and in particular music is so influential. It connects the subconscious with reality through the beautifully crafted musical notes intertwining with one another. Once you’ve placed your earbuds in, the sorrows and pains felt that day are dimmed and for a brief moment in time, you feel as though everything will be okay.
